BERNICE Blackstock is left reeling after some shocking news about her health.
The Emmerdale character played by Samantha Giles tries to pick herself back up next week.
Bernice Blackstock is going through the menopause
She gave up her job at Mandy’s salon
Her behaviour was a cause for concern
ITV viewers noticed the beautician wasn’t acting like her usual self as she stood by her sister Nicola King during Naomi Anderson’s trial.
Fans of the Yorkshire-based drama were convinced she’d be set for a health storyline as she was seen taking frequent trips to the bathroom and feeling very thirsty.
While she initially feared she could be diagnosed with dementia, village GP Liam Cavanagh eventually cleared things up.
He let her know she was actually going through the menopause, which Laurel Thomas had also thought of.
Coming up next week, Bernice struggles to digest her diagnosis and grapples with both loneliness and other menopausal symptoms.
Her daughter Gabby Thomas (played by Rosie Bentham) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) both try to support her to no avail.
Bernice longs for something of her own and regrets quitting her job at PampaManda, Mandy Dingle’s beauty salon.
As viewers may know, Bernice left her job on a whim following a mishap but soon wonders what she could be doing with her spare time.
In later scenes, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) convince her to swallow her pride and ask Mandy for her job back.
While viewers will have to wait before they can find out if Bernice gets her job back, she gets rattled by a strange discovery.
In Café Main Street, Bernice stumbles upon a joker card left after the morning’s poker game.
She wonders how she should interpret its meaning but soon makes an offer.
Bernice’s behaviour became a cause for concern in recent episodes of the program.
She most notably turned on a hose in Mandy’s beauty salon, resulting in a client being drenched.
This could be explained by the mental health impact menopause can have and symptoms often include a low mood, anxiety, mood swings and even brain fog.
Physical symptoms of menopause include hot flushes, palpitations, difficulty sleeping, weight gain, headaches and migraines.
What will Bernice do to cope with the change?
