FINANCIAL woes are on the front of David Metcalfe’s mind, leading him to take unlawful and desperate action.
But Priya Sharma and Jacob Gallagher spot his troubling behaviour and call the Emmerdale shop owner out.
Like many other businesses off-screen, David’s Shop was left struggling during the Covid pandemic and David Metcalfe (portrayed by Matthew Wolfenden) is trying to pick up the pieces.
As he realises his shop hasn’t been doing as well as he had hoped, David is on the lookout for any spare cash he can get his hands on.
This leads him to take advantage of a minor collision with a traumatised Nicola King and feign a neck injury in a bid to get money from Nicola’s insurers.
Nicola crashed her car into David’s vehicle in a panic as she increasingly shows signs of agoraphobia, an irrational fear of entering open or crowded places or of leaving one’s home.

Determined to continue his insurance fraud, David has been reprimanded by Brenda for filing the claim in the first place as Nicola remains fragile after her attack.
In upcoming scenes of the Yorkshire-based soap, however, he is put on blast by two other villagers – his former partner Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) and former step-son Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
Next week, both Priya and Jacob make their opposition to David’s attitude very clear as his insurance fraud continues.
But when they share their disapproval, David begins to show a flicker of regret for his scheming.
Will he disregard their concerns or see reason before ostracising those close to him?
This remains to be seen but it will evidently be a huge dilemma for David.
As mentioned above, David’s finances aren’t what they used to be and his worries grow.
