To get the funds, he is even willing to push his sister Priya (Fiona Wade) and their father Rishi (Bhasker Patel) to sell their own home, Holdgate Farm.

However, this only causes further tension within his family, prompting Laurel to suggest they reach out to the bank for a mortgage.

While she is confident her idea could be their only way out, Jai knows that Laurel is closing in on him and tries to stall her.

ITV viewers know that the Jai forged a loan application in her name.

His efforts are vain and Laurel makes up her mind to get the mortgage application.

But Jai’s lies begin to unravel when the bank informs Laurel there is a problem due to her low credit score, resulting from a large loan she has taken out.

In a panic, and while Jai initially bluffs, Laurel decides to call the police and report the fraud, forcing him to come clean.

When he admits to have taken the loan, Laurel drops her phone and stares back at him in horror.

After telling him to fix his life, and despite her love for him, Laurel admits to being unable to forgive Jai.

Jai’s business ventures turned sour after Survival Week at The Hop led to the murder of Andrea Tate, among other casualties.

Heavily fined, as Andrea’s family blamed the management of The Hop for her death, unaware that Meena Jutla actually hunted her down, Jai faced ruin.

At the risk of losing everything, he had first tried to file for a loan in his name but this attempt was unsuccessful.

It was only then he decided to sign a new loan application in Laurel’s name behind her back.
