EMMERDALE’s Gaynor Faye has revealed she quit the soap because she couldn’t say no to working with her mum.

The 48-year-old – who has played Megan Macey since 2011 – made the decision to leave to appear in the stage adaptation of her mum Kay Mellor’s show Band Of Gold.

Gaynor Faye has revealed she left Emmerdale to work with her mum

Kay is a well-known TV writer and is bringing her grounding breaking 90s hit TV show to stage with a star-studded cast, including her actress daughter.

Speaking to So Glos about being part of the theatre production, Faye explained: “I was working on Emmerdale at the time and got involved in workshopping Band of Gold and people just loved it… absolutely loved it.

“Then I got asked if I would be in it, but I was still in Emmerdale, so then I had to make the choice whether or not I was going to leave Emmerdale or not – and that was a big choice to make.”

Gaynor’s mum Kay Mellor wanted her to appear in Band Of Gold

Faye admitted it would have been hard to say no to her own mum, but she doesn’t regret taking the leap.

“She really wanted me in it. She really liked my version of Rose,” she said. “So, for her, she really wanted me to do it. But it was a big decision I had to make and I didn’t make it lightly.

“It would’ve been great for me to able to go back to Emmerdale, but I had to leave to do the theatre job, so it was a very big decision.”

The theatre production features other famous soap faces including Hollyoaks’ Kieron Richardson, former Corrie star Shayne Ward and EastEnders’ Laurie Brett.

Band Of Gold tells the story of a young mum turning to prostitution to support her family after throwing her abusive husband out of the house.
