She posted: “Having a wee break from the vitriolic place Twitter is today! It astounds me how nasty people are. See you in a while.”

Samantha had been outspoken about the people she had seen not following the covid guidelines ahead of Freedom Day.

Hitting out at people not social distancing or wearing masks during her family trip to Blackpool, she posted: “Today we hit Blackpool for the youngest’s upcoming birthday.

“God it was mental. And no social distancing, not many masks being worn.

“Are people mad???? No wonder cases are rising.”

While many fans thanked Samantha for raising awareness of the guidelines, others sent her vile abuse.

It was enough for Samantha to take a step back from social media for the time being.

It comes as ITV bosses warned soap stars that the show’s are in danger of shutting down due to the cases of covid in the cast and crew.

Last week a source told HOAR: “It is, of course, everyone’s personal choice whether they are vaccinated or not.

“On both soaps, there’s a handful of cast members as well as production staff who say they won’t be vaccinated and that’s up to them.

“However, there is a matter of collective responsibility and in an industry where the cast and crew groups are small, a positive Covid test can cause real production nightmares.

“There’s also the matter of giving the virus to older people who despite being vaccinated themselves are still at risk of infection.”
