EMMERDALE viewers are convinced the soap referenced coronavirus or even predicted it as Luke Posner is seen washing his hands while singing Happy Birthday.
As everyone now knows, according to Government advice, it’s recommended we wash our hands for 20 seconds or twice the length of the traditional celebration song.
In tonight’s episode the chef could be seen washing his hands in the kitchen at the Woolpack. While scrubbing, Luke could be heard singing the tune under his breath.
Victoria Sugden walked in half way through, and surprised at his song choice, asked: “Were you just singing Happy Birthday?”
He replied: “Ermmmm yep, it’s how we’re supposed to time washing our hands.”
The off the cuff comment has now convinced Emmerdale fans the soap subtly referenced the coronavirus pandemic.
Viewers watching couldn’t get over the scene, convinced soap bosses included the moment to reference the pandemic – despite being filmed before the government lockdown.
Rushing to Twitter, one fan wrote: “There’s the #Covid_19 reference #Emmerdale”
Another praised: “Well done #Emmerdale on being the first TV programme to (subtly) mention the current situation.”
While a third joked: “Glad to see Luke using the hand washing technique #Emmerdale”
And a fourth worried: “First subtle reference to #Coronavirus by Character #LukePosner in #Emmerdale tonight! How long does the Soap now go on for??”
Another commented: “Luke singing happy birthday while washing his hands…Emmerdale reminding people of how to wash their hands correctly #Emmerdale.”
Production shut down on ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the shows being rationed to allow them to go on for as long as possible.
ITV have now stepped in to give fans their soap fix by sharing classic episodes of Corrie and Emmerdale on the ITV Hub.
