Hollyoaks David Easter reveals he’s in rehab for alcoholism after struggling for 20 years

FORMER Hollyoaks star David Easter has checked himself into rehab for alcoholism.

The actor, who played Mac Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap, revealed that he has struggled for 20 years – but insisted he is “making progress.”

Taking to Twitter, David, 60, explained he is currently spending the coronavirus lockdown at a rehab clinic in Kent.

He wrote: “Forgive Me, last message, as I only have use of my phone for a few hours.

“I’m in lockdown in a rehabilitation home in Kent, which treats substance abuse and Alcoholism, I’ve been an Alcoholic for over twenty years. I’m safe and making progress, thank You Friends Always.”

The actor later thanked followers for their kind messages, saying: “I’d forgotten how Twitter can be so Amazing!! Thank You with all my heart, for all your Messages of Support, you’re Awesome!!!”

The actor has previously opened up on his struggles with clinical depression

David’s celebrity friends were quick to comment their support.

Tamzin Outhwaite wrote: “Good luck.”

Former co-star Charlie Clapham commented: “Sending love to you dude.”

While Eastenders star Tanya Franks added: “David, it’s been 17 years since we worked together or had contact. I’m so glad to read your message and sending you strength. Stay safe, keep well, and continue to be brave – you can do this!”

David assured followers he is ‘making progress’

Last year, David opened up on his 20-year battle with clinical depression.

He said: “I apologise for some of my tweets. I suffer from clinical depression. I was diagnosed 20 years ago – it’s a battle. It’s a battle I’m going to win, it’s a war I’m going to win.

“I would love everyone to know that employers have to do a lot more for people with any disability, mental and physical.
“You’ve got to do more. Embrace it more, care about it more and love more. Because with love you can do anything.”

David’s final scenes on the soap aired last year.

His character was bumped off by serial killer Breda McQueen, who is played by Moya Brady, after she poisoned his lasagne.
