HOLLYOAKS’ James will turn to his ex-boyfriend John Paul after hitting the booze to cope with his guilt about shooting Mercedes.

The troubled character – played by Gregory Finnegan in the soap – ends up slumped in the street drinking out a bottle as he hits rock bottom.

These new spoiler pictures show John Paul with his arm around James as he supports him through this tough time.

James targeted Mercedes on the day of Harry Thompson’s funeral as he sought revenge for her framing the love of his lifeas the driver during Grace’s hit-and-run.

It sparked a huge whodunnit storyline with seven culprits in the mix.

Since his secret was revealed to viewers, James has struggled to cope, John Paul makes a choice between helping his ex and starting his new job.

He’s been appointed deputy head at Hollyoaks High, but on his first official day ends up spending time with drunk James who is out on the street.

Viewers will have to wait to find out if John Paul is able to drag him out the gutter.

Last year James (Gregory Finnegan) was left devastated when he learned that the love of his life Harry (Parry Glasspool) had been murdered.

Unable to process this news, the solicitor hit the bottle and started bringing men back to his place to party all night – which hasn’t gone down well with his mum Marnie (Lysette Anthony).

James hits rock bottom in the coming weeks

Things took a dramatic turn when he almost jumped off the archway – but Romeo (Owen Warner) managed to stop him from doing so.

But Romeo bore the brunt of James’ pain when, after an explosive argument ,James punched him.

Viewers then saw James wracked with guilt over his actions, which then saw Romeo fleeing to the Maaliks empty house.
