Hollyoaks shocker: Clare Devine rises from the dead with Gemma Bissix looking EXACTLY the same

Holy crap. It's happening. The villain we all thought was six feet under is crawling back to terrorize the village, and I've got the exclusive first peek at her return.

I literally spat out my coffee when these photos landed in my inbox yesterday. Gemma Bissix is back on the Hollyoaks set, and teh woman hasn't aged a single day since we last saw her character Clare Devine supposedly killed off by Dr. Browning 12 years ago. TWELVE YEARS. Let that sink in.

How is this woman still so annoyingly gorgeous?

Channel 4 has started filming the comeback scenes, and honestly, looking at these photos of Gemma in her green top and dungarees, casually chatting on her phone between takes... it's like stepping into a time machine. My friend who works in makeup texted me: "She must have a portrait aging in an attic somewhere." Seriously though.

I remember interviewing Gemma back in 2010 when she was leaving the show. We had lunch at this terrible little cafe near the studios where they burned my sandwich. She was lovely even then.

Tom vs. Clare: Round Two

The juiciest bit? Ellis Hollins is returning as Tom Cunningham to face off against his childhood tormentor. Remember those dark-as-hell scenes where Clare locked little Tom up and drugged his guardian Max? Or when she FAKED THE KID'S DEATH to manipulate Max into jumping into a freezing lake?

But Tom's not a little boy anymore.

An insider (who may or may not have bought me drinks to loosen my lips about other Hollyoaks gossip) told me: "It was a no brainer to revisit the battle and have a rematch. Bosses are really excited to have Gemma and Ellis back."

Wait... didn't she DIE though?

Look, this is soap land. Death is more like an extended vacation. My theory? Clare's been plotting her revenge from some tropical island, spending Max's money and perfecting her evil schemes.

Or maybe Dr. Browning was just really bad at checking for pulses. Wouldn't be the first time a soap doctor bungled basic medical procedures.

The streaming gamble that paid off

It's been a rollercoaster year for Hollyoaks. Remember last year when they had to cut down to just three episodes weekly? Everyone was writing obituaries for the show. Well, turns out Hannah Cheers (great name for a producer, btw) knew what she was doing.

Since moving to streaming first, viewership is up 23% overall adn a massive 71% per episode. Not too shabby for a show approaching its 30th anniversary.

Louise Donald from Channel 4 Drama couldn't resist a bit of corporate gloating: "We are delighted with how well the audience has embraced the new format. It's testament to Hannah's vision for the show, the amazing storylines and performances."

Yeah, yeah... but we're all just here for the villains, aren't we?

When can we actually see this madness?

Sources tell me Clare will be back on screens later this month. I've already blocked out my calendar and warned my partner not to disturb me. "It's for work," I insisted. He just rolled his eyes.

If you're as stupidly excited as I am about this return from the dead, make sure you vote for all things Hollyoaks at the British Soap Awards.

God. I can't believe I'm this invested in a soap villain's return. But Clare Devine was always something special... like finding a scorpion in your shoe. Terrifying, but you can't look away.
