THE CORONATION Street actress who plays Ken Barlow’s granddaughter has revealed the ‘brat pack’ of young actors love going out drinking together – and call it “getting Barlowed”.

Elle Mulvaney, 20, has played Amy Barlow since she was eight years old and is one of seven youngsters whose characters now grapple with huge storylines.

There’s plenty of time for fun away from the cobbles for the young stars

And with Steve and Tracy McDonald – played by Simon Gregson and Kate Ford – as parents, Amy comes in for a load of strife.

But there’s plenty of time for fun away from the cobbles.

In an exclusive interview, Elle said: “We all socialise together. We’ve shown James Craven the best places to go out in Manchester. We’ve taken him to all the clubs!

“There’s that saying isn’t there… ‘Get Barlowed!’ It means to get leathered!

“I’m always trying to get Kate Ford to come out, but I get it, we’re annoying.

“The wildest on a night out has got to be Jack James Ryan.

“He’s so great, I don’t know how he does it, he can literally stay up until 8am, he is just super human.

“When you’re in a group, if one person gets recognised and then they go ‘Oh!’”

“We did all just find that instantly we became this tight-knit group of friends.”

Elle’s character Amy has just moved into a shared flat alongside her boyfriend Jacob Hay and their best mates Summer and Aaron.

She added: “We were all saying, it’s like we’re in Friends! We call it our little Friends spin-off.

“I think it’s so cool I’ve been here for so long.

“Even when people don’t watch it, if I say ‘I’m Ken’s granddaughter’, they always know who he is. The Barlows are Coronation Street.”

Corrie’s boss Ian MacLeod has teased the younger cast will all be involved in a hard-hitting storyline this February

Meanwhile Corrie’s boss Ian MacLeod has teased the younger cast will all be involved in a hard-hitting storyline this February.

He said: “It’s a huge story we can tell with them right at the heart of it, very relatable and very teenage. I’m hoping it’s the kind of story that shocks a bit and provokes awkward conversations in front of the TV.”

He added that elsewhere, new thug Damon Hay – played by Shameless star Ciaran Grifiths – will seduce one of the Street’s leading ladies in a shock affair.

Iain added: “There’s something about a bad boy isn’t there.

“As the year goes on, he has a magnetic attraction for a notable high profile female character who ends up having her head turned, which has far-reaching consequences.”

Max Turner’s grooming plot will also come to an epic conclusion.
