SOAP bosses promised ITV viewers an anniversary to remember for the eponymous village.

Five decades of Emmerdale are celebrated this week but fans will need tissues at the ready – death and destruction are ahead.

The week begins with Kim Tate and Will Taylor’s wedding

Things get out of hand very quickly

The stormy weather ahead could turn all her plans on their head

She has unfinished business with Harriet

1. Kim and Harriet have bad blood

Emmerdale’s anniversary week began on Sunday, October 16 – fifty years since the first ever episode of the Yorkshire-based drama was aired.

But ahead of some explosive stunts and major drama, residents of the Dales got ready to celebrate Kim Tate and Will Taylor’s wedding.

However, the businesswoman played by Claire King has had some concerns about her groom-to-be’s relationship with PC Harriet Finch (portrayed by Katherine Dow Blyton).

After a tense confrontation during which the former vicar and policewoman grabbed her rival by the throat, both women venture into the countryside as gushes of wind pose a threat to everyone in the village.

Harriet battles her way in the wind while Kim is asked by Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) to step up – and she obliges.

The policewoman bombs across the countryside on a quad bike while Kim struggles against the elements on her horse and she spots the tyre tracks of Harriet’s quad bike.

Will the women ever make it to safety?

Pregnant teen Amelia Spencer is getting ready to become a mother

2. Amelia goes into labour

But what pushes Kim and Harriet to follow one another into the wild?

Emmerdale cleaner Lydia has been looking forward to becoming a grandmother as Amelia Spencer has been expecting her first child with the support of Noah Dingle.

This is due to the fact the baby’s biological father Sam has maintained he wants nothing to do with the child.

Yet how would he feel when the pregnant teen played by Daisy Campbell goes into labour in the midst of a storm?

Coming up on ITV, Amelia prepares for a picnic date with Noah and all seems well between the pair.

The wind picks up as a heavily pregnant Amelia goes through the countryside to meet up with Noah.

The force of the wind knocks her over and her contractions begin.

Desperate for help, she calls her father Dan (Liam Fox) but her phone dies before she can tell him exactly where she is.

Much like Harriet and Kim, Dan continues his own search for his daughter, worried beyond belief.

Little does everyone know that Amelia is hiding out in a barn, shaken by the force of the wind outside and with her contractions continuing, the young girl is petrified.

Amelia begins to pray for her and her baby’s safety.

Will her baby make it?

Aaron Dingle returned to the village to make amends with his half-sister Liv – but he makes a shock decision

3. Liv and Vinny are in danger

Kim and Harriet won’t be the only villagers forced to face the storm.

Following Sandra Flaherty’s scheming being exposed, Liv and Vinny (portrayed by Isobel Steele and Bradley Johnson) were perhaps looking forward to spending their time unencumbered.

And while that may be the case, Aaron Dingle’s return has left them with a lot to think about.

This week, Liv chastises her brother (Danny Miller) for his decision to leave.

But before he can turn away from the eponymous village again, Aaron shares a special family moment with Liv, Vinny and the latter’s mother Mandy, as they hanker away from the storm outside.

A dishevelled Paddy later arrives with news that his wife Chas has been taken to hospital.

Worried for his mother, Aaron sets off to see the Woolpack pub manager alongside Paddy and they are quickly followed by Liv and Vinny.

The couple also set out into the dangerous weather to look after Eve at the Woolpack.

Vinny and Liv struggle against the violent winds, determined to press on to take care of Chas’ young daughter.

Is tragedy ahead?

While the both of them make their way to the iconic pub, a cow stampede could lead to more damage.

Al Chapman is torn between two women, Kerry Wyatt and Chas Dingle

4. Al is given a choice

What leads Chas (Lucy Pargeter) to hospital?

After missing out on her mother Faith’s last moments, the Woolpack pub manager is adamant on staying away from Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

She blames him for not being able to say goodbye to her mother as he secretly set her phone to silent.

This week, Chas pushes Al away and he accepts their affair is over, ready to leave the village and his fiancée Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) for good.

But when the storm his, Kerry and Chas both find themselves in danger and they’re hit by falling debris.

Al is left with a choice over who to save – his fiancée or secret lover?

He rushes over to Chas’ side, leaving Kerry baffled as she scrambles back up to her feet.

Kerry is stunned when she spots Al and Chas from afar, as he takes her to hospital.

Have they been rumbled again?

Marlon and Mary get worried for Rhona

5. Rhona goes missing

Amid a killer storm wreaking havoc all throughout the village and Kim Tate’s wedding underway, many residents are out in numbers and even unaccounted for.

Two of them grow increasingly concerned this week when village vet Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) doesn’t return home – her mother Mary (Louise Jameson) and her husband Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

Seriously worried for her safety, Mary and Marlon exchange a fearful glance.

Could Rhona face a sad fate?

Tragedy could strike Lydia’s family

6. Lydia gets horrific news

Lydia has gone above and beyond to make sure Amelia was safe during the storm, going to Home Farm to ask for help.

Little does she know the teen is hiding out in a barn, praying for safety.

As mentioned above, a cow stampede is taking over the village after one of Moira Dingle’s barns collapses.

Sadly, in later scenes, Lydia gets terrible news.

Could it involve Amelia?

Nicola has a panic attack – can she let Charles help her?

7. Nicola and Charles face the storm

Elsewhere, there’s a lot of bad blood between Nicola King and Charles Anderson (Nicola Wheeler and Kevin Mathurin) but the storm could push them together.

Following Kim Tate’s wedding ceremony, Nicola finds herself without a lift and begrudgingly accepts the vicar’s offer of a lift.

They soon stop and survey the abandoned minibus, worrying as to where the rest of the wedding party passengers have gone.

Nicola heads out into the countryside to find her husband Jimmy and Charles is left with no choice but to follow her.

The pair struggle through the wind and, spotting a derelict shelter, take refuge in it.

While both of his children, Ethan and Naomi, are worried sick for him, Charles keeps Nicola safe when a tree crashes to the ground – but the hostility remains between them.

Nicola later starts to have a panic attack – can she left Charles help her?

Emmerdale airs from Monday to Friday on ITV.
