BETH Tinker is paying the consequences of her actions after she lied about not slapping Hope Stape.

To make matters worse, Kirk Sutherland has a brief and nostalgic encounter with a former flame in Coronation Street.

One couple recently called it quits

Beth Tinker finds comfort in another man

She tried to hold on to Kirk Sutherland, to no avail

The Underworld machinist played by Lisa George slapped the young girl after she tried to avenge Cilla the chinchilla by targeting her dog, Peanut.

But once she hit Hope, Beth knew she had to be very careful, particularly as the youngster told her mother Fiz Stape all about the slap.

Beth lied and bribed Hope but the truth caught up with her in recent scenes – and resulted in heaps of issues within her relationship with Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment).

The packer was unable to look at Beth the same way when he found she had not only slapped Hope but also lied about it.

After initially planning to pack up and leave her, his sister Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) managed to push him back to Beth who tried on multiple occasions to change his mind about her.

The pair were close to reuniting in the Rovers until Kirk found a handwritten letter left to Beth by a man named Marco.

Kirk realised he may not be anything special to Beth and the shock discovery seemed to seal the deal for him as he walked out of the pub.

How will Beth cope?

Coming up next week on ITV, Beth finds a way by getting in touch with Marco, a former lover.

Having dressed to impress him, Beth asks Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) to accompany her to meet Marco.

However, when she realises she’s surplus to requirements, the Rovers barmaid makes herself scarce.

How far will Beth go?

Could Kirk come back running?

While that remains to be seen, Kirk has another former sweetheart to rekindle a connection with and Beth is left seething.

In later scenes, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) and him reminisce about the time he proposed to her.

How will Beth react and what will she do?

As diehard Corrie fans will perhaps remember, Fiz and Kirk were in a romantic relationship for several years and he even proposed to her in 2007.

At the time, however, Fiz had been reunited with her first boyfriend, John Stape and felt conflicted about her romance with Kirk.

Fiz and Kirk eventually called it quits as she went on to marry the serial killer, give birth to her daughter Hope and, most recently, tie the knot again with another on-off flame, Tyrone Dobbs.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
