Ricky Butcher gets custody of Janine’s daughter Scarlett and decides to head back to Germany – but will Sam Mitchell go with him?

In upcoming episodes, more exits are potentially on the cards as Ricky gets custody of Janine’s daughter Scarlett following her mum’s arrest.

Ricky – played by Sid Owen – starts to make plans to return to Germany, taking Scarlett with him.

During his time back in Albert Square, Ricky has started to reconnect with his ex-wife Sam (Kim Medcalf) and as he discusses his plans, she considers what she really wants from in life.

Will it be making a new life abroad with Ricky?

Kim, 49, returned to EastEnders in April last year after 17 years away from the role of Sam.

The character was first played by Danniella Westbrook before Kim took over in 2002.

She left in 2005 before Danniella reprised the role again from 2009 to 2016.

Speaking about returning to EastEnders after such a long absence, Kim said last year: “I had a call from EastEnders late last year asking me if I would be interested in coming back and returning as Sam Mitchell.

“I was so thrilled and it didn’t take me long to say yes. I was at home when I got the call, and it really was a really lovely surprise.

“I’ve been watching the show on and off when I can, so I was really genuinely thrilled to be asked back.”
