What is Shona Ramseys Coronation Street exit storyline?

Corrie fans watched in horror as Shona got mangled in Derek’s firing line during the Christmas mass shooting.

Viewers watched a horrified David get the awful news that Shona hadbeen left with brain damage and may never make a full recovery from her gunshot wound.

The doctors then removed Shonas breathing tubes as a test to see if she could do it on her own.

As her friends and family gathered at the hospital, they were delighted to hear that Shona had survived and was breathing on her own.

But the nurse warned David not to get his hopes up and that if things did start to look up, it would be a long road back to recovery.

David has been by Shona’s side throughout her coma in Corrie

Sure enough, in scenes that aired this week Shona opened her eyes and it was clear she didn’t have a clue who David was.

When she regained consciousness later, it was clear she was suffering from amnesia and still had no idea it was her husband standing before her.

In upcoming scenes, David is going to get the news that Shona is being moved to a specialist unit in Leeds where they can properly monitor her brain activity and control her recovery.

It’s likely that this storyline development will mark Shonas exit from the soap

But her last scene is yet to be confirmed by ITV bosses, and fans will have to tune in to find out.

Why is actress Julia Goulding quitting Coronation Street?

Actress Julia Goulding – who plays Shona in the ITV soap – revealed back in July that she was leaving the show to have her first child.

Julia announced back in May that she was expecting her first child with husband Ben Silver.

She told fans: “Ben and I are delighted to announce that we are expecting our first baby at the end of this year!

“We are absolutely overjoyed and cant wait to meet our little one!”

And on November 30, 2019, she gave birth to son Franklin Wolf Silver after going into labour early.

She told fans: “He’s changed our lives for the better in every way. I feel like I’ve known him my whole life.”

Is Shona returning to Coronation Street?

ITV bosses are yet to confirm any details of Shonas return.

But its likely that Julias character Shona will be making a dramatic comeback to the ITV soap given that shes only announced plans to take four months maternity leave.

Moving her character to Leeds while she recovers from her gunshot wound is the perfect plot to leave the door open for Shona to come back to the show at some point later this year.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has hinted that it’s not the end of the road for Shona and David.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Ian said: “The David/Shona story is very big. The character of David can pretty much sustain any kind of story, whether it be comedy or tragedy, and this is probably slightly more towards the latter category.”

“This is going to be very big, not just in January, but all the way through to next year. The events of Christmas will provide David and Shona with the biggest test of their relationship and thats not an exaggeration. If you consider what they have been through already, that is no small statement.”
