A FAMILY travelled 50miles to see the real-life Emmerdale village but were left feeling “disappointed” and said “it looked bigger on the telly”.

The ITV soap fans drove from Rotherham to Esholt village, in Leeds, Yorks, where Emmerdale was filmed from 1976 to 1996.

But Chris and Zoe were underwhelmed by their trip.

Zoe, a social care worker, said: “It is a bit disappointing. We are a bit like, well this is a bit s***.

“It’s nothing like Emmerdale.”

The couple took their two-year-old son Ronnie, to see the site of the hit TV show.

The village has the real-life Woolpack pub, featured in the show, and hordes of fans visited on coaches before the pandemic.

Filming moved to Harewood, Leeds, Yorks, in 1996 and a replica of Esholt was built there.

Zoe added: “We didn’t know what to expect, but we thought it was going to be a bit bigger.

“It’s bigger on the telly I suppose, it always looks bigger on the telly.”

The downcast couple spent their time wandering around the small village in the pouring rain with their youngest son in a pram.

They had hoped to recognise locations from the show but said the village was unrecognisable.
