STRICTLY Come Dancing fans have complained about a secret shake-up off the show they want fixed.

Dave Arch has been the long-standing conductor of the beloved Strictly band, which performs every song for the celebrities to dance to every weekend.

The band is the backbone to all the celebrity routines

However, in the 2022 series, fans believe the show has moved the introduction of the musicians, giving them less time to be appreciated as a result.

In a thread on Reddit, viewers shared their frustrations as one asked: “Has anyone else noticed Dave Arch’s band and the singers being introduced has been moved from after the first dance to later in the show?”

It’s clear that many had noticed the tweak, and called for Strictly to return them to pride of place with an introduction at the top of the episode, after their first performance.

“The band are becoming more and more hidden every year,” said one fan. “They don’t even introduce the singers anymore.”

“Seems very dismissive that they don’t,” another said in response. “After all, Tommy, Hailey and the gang are just as much part of the success of the show. Along with the band, they seem a bit of an afterthought in recent times”

“They should get a feature on [It Takes Two] like they do with Vicky Gill and Jo Clifton,” suggested another, while a group agreed that they would like a “red button option” that would allow them to view the band performing from the pit as the show aired.

“Yeah. As a musician I would love to watch them rather than the dancers (don’t downvote me for this) they are so brilliant I could just watch them all day,” one wrote.

Dave Arch joined the series as musical director in 2006 and has been with the show ever since, and is often commented on by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as he features.

This week will be a return to his theme tune roots (after creating the initial theme songs for shows including GMTV) with a host of favourites being danced to as part of the BBC Centenary celebrations (though not all of them his).

The line-up includes Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez performing a Charleston to Blue Peter’s theme, Ellie Taylor will be dancing a Tango to the Casualty theme song, while James Bye and Amy Dowden will be foxtrotting to the EastEnders theme.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
