AN UNEXPECTED entry into the UK gaming charts has pushed out some fan-favourite series.

FIFA, Mario and Minecraft always score consistent sales, but a new release has topped the charts.

Dead Island 2 has been a surprise hit.

Dead Island 2 is the best-selling game of the week, despite Minecraft Legends also releasing.

After more than 10 years in development, Dead Island 2 has finally been released following the original game’s launch in 2011.

Often games that spend this long in development don’t end up being successful, but it looks as if Dead Island 2 will buck the trend.

Minecraft Legends still snagged the second spot, ahead of another launch from the week, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.

The top ten sales in the UK are reported by GI.biz every week, which is where we have pulled the figures.

The other games in the top ten are a mix of popular series and some other games that were released fairly recently.

FIFA’s latest entry is consistently in the top ten every week of the UK charts, alongside the latest Mario games.

Hogwarts Legacy, the Resident Evil 4 remake and God of War Ragnarök were all released within the last six months, but are holding strong sales.

The true mark of Dead Island 2’s success will be if it is able to hold a spot in the top ten for months to come.

It’s also possible that it only holds the hype around release before quickly dropping off.

Here’s the top ten games in the UK this week.

  1. Dead Island 2
  2. Minecraft Legends
