Forza Horizon, Motorsport and Gran Turismo pay respects to rally driver Ken Block

LEGENDARY American rally driver Ken Block recently passed away, aged 55, in a snowmobile accident.

His team, The Hoonigans, released the news of his death today (January 3) on social media.

The statement reads: “It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today.

“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, and an icon. And most importantly a father, and husband.

“He will be incredibly missed. Please respect the family’s privacy at this time while they grieve.”

Block and his cars have been featured in numerous racing games over the years.

Series that have featured him in its games include Forza Horizon, Motorsport, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, and Dirt.

A number of the teams behind these games have put a statement out on social media to pay their respects to Block.

Forza Motorsport took to Twitter to say: “Ken Block from The Hoonigans had a huge influence on the motorsports community around the world.

“Our deepest condolences to his family. You will be missed, Ken.”

Forza Horizon’s team also paid its respects, writing: “Devastating news about the loss of Ken Block.

“He was a legend in motorsports and will be dearly missed.

“Our deepest condolences to his family and the team at The Hoonigans.”

Gran Turismo shared an image of Block’s in-game model with the succinct caption: “RIP Ken Block.

“A legend lost too soon.”

While best known for his driving, Block also competed in skateboarding and snowboarding events, and co-founded DC Shoes.

He was hugely influential in both sports and games, and is best known for gymkhana-style races.
