GAMERS across the globe were left high and dry this morning after pre-orders for the new PlayStation console sold out within minutes.
The PlayStation 5 isn’t out until November but a handful of stores opened up orders on Thursday, sparking a furious scramble for the machine online.
PS5 listings have already begun to pop up on sites like eBay for as much as £250 above the asking price.
Crestfallen PlayStation fans took to social media to vent their frustrations at missing out.
“So did anyone manage to pre order a PS5? F*****g thing sold out everywhere in about 30 seconds,” one Twitter user asked.
Another fumed: “PS5 is completely sold out for australia and i literally had no chance to get it. now no stock until 2021. f**k.”
Japanese tech titan Sony announced it was working on the PS5 last year but waited until Wednesday to reveal the console’s price and release date.
Two versions of the machine will hit shelves in the US, South Korea and other markets on November 12, followed by the UK a week later.
Pre-orders for the £449 console went live on Thursday at major retailers including Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy. Stocks are reported to have run dry within an hour.
It’s not clear when the PS5 will be restocked.
On Twitter, one eagle-eyed user discovered a listing for a PlayStation 5 on eBay charging people £700 for the sought-after gaming machine.
The seller claims they’re based in the UK and that the console will be shipped on release day.
It’s one of dozens of PS5 listings to have popped up on second-hand sales sites since Thursday morning.
“PS5 preorders going well I see, already all over ebay and sold out in most places before breakfast was finished,” one Twitter user quipped.
There’s no way to verify what proportion of the posts are legitimate.
Some may be attempting to scam desperate gamers willing to pay well above the asking price.
It’s likely that major retailers will have restocked the PlayStation 5 in the coming weeks, so don’t panic just yet.
