CALL of Duty Cold War comes with loads of next-gen tricks and treats.

We reveal some of the coolest graphical and audio upgrades that feature in the new Black Ops games for Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC.

Call of Duty Cold War looks incredible

Immersive sound

The new game has loads of clever sound tech in.

For instance, Black Ops Cold War supports 3D Audio – allowing for spatialisation and directionality.

This even works for voice-chat.

You can distinctly hear if something is happening around you, as well as above or below.

The new game is more impressive visually than any before it

There’s a threat-priority system for audio too, so you’ll hear all the sounds you need during intense combat – and nothing else.

Developers have also physically modelled the world in terms of sound occlusion, reverb and decay for a more realistic feel.

Realistic lighting

Call of Duty’s creators used real-world recorded data for light brightness, response and colour.

This was processed and used to make the movement of light in-game more realistic.

It ties in with ray-tracing technology, which maps out how rays of light move.

This makes in-game lighting much more realistic.

Smooth gameplay

The game supports 120Hz playback so you can get a seriously smooth experience.

And if you’ve got a PlayStation 5, the new DualSense controller offers haptic feedback – giving realistic sensations for in-game experiences.

You’ll also enjoy faster loading on next-gen consoles and PCs using super-fast SSD storage.
