God of War Ragnarök: Alva boss battle guide

GOD of War Ragnarök is full of tense boss fights, and Alva is one of the tougher to take down.

She can be found in the Temple of Light, not long after you complete the statues puzzle.

Blue Rings means it’s time for a shield strike.

Choose the time to attack wisely.

The Temple of Light is also where you can find the Hilt of Gram, a powerful Relic that stuns enemies.

If you’re having trouble taking her down, here’s our guide on Alva in God of War Ragnarök.

How to defeat Alva in God of War Ragnarök

This boss fight requires you to master the shield strikes, which is performed by double-tapping L1.

These interrupt enemy attacks, and can be done when you see a blue ring around your attacker.

Shield strikes are essential to getting through this fight, and here are our tips on how to take her out:

  • Whenever the blue ring appears around Alva, double-tap L1 to perform a shield strike and interrupt her attack.
  • Alva will perform a big wind-up before she does a combo of two slashes. These can either be blocked, parried, or dodged, if you look for the sign.
  • Later, she switches to a much longer combo that ends in an unblockable ground pound. This is the fourth attack in the combo, so make sure to roll away as it will damage a wide area.
  • When she starts throwing blades at you, the easiest option is to roll under them. If you are confident in your abilities, you can still parry them.
  • The cross-energy blasts she performs cannot be parried and must be dodged.

Once her health is critical, she will start to heal herself using the light of Alfheim.

This must be prevented or you will end up in an infinite loop of attacking and healing.

To do this, you need to perform a shield strike by tapping the L1 button.

Doing this will interrupt her healing and open her up to execute a finisher attack.

Once this is performed, Alva is defeated and the fight will end.

Alva is just one of the first tough boss fights you will have to encounter, so make sure you master the shield strike, parry, and dodge before you face them.
