PLAYSTATION has announced that it will be creating games for mobile devices using its major titles.

The company has acquired Savage Game Studios, which will now work under the PlayStation Studios brand.

God of War Ragnarӧk is still expected to be Sony’s biggest release this year.

Savage is a studio that works exclusively on mobile games, and is already reportedly working on a triple-A game for PlayStation.

Announced in a PlayStation blog post, Sony is looking to expand into the mobile gaming market following its recent success in porting its popular games to PC.

PlayStation wanted to assure players that its expansion into mobile will in no way inhibit development on games for the PS4 and PS5.

Instead, it wants to make clear that the new mobile games will be in addition to current projects.

Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst said: “As we assured you before with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community.

“Nor [does the expansion diminish] our passion to keep making amazing single-player, narrative-driven experiences.”

The blog reminds players that despite delivering more PC ports such as Spider-Man Remastered and the original God of War reboot, console games are still extremely strong.

Like the company’s PC ports and the upcoming PSVR2, the mobile games developed will be additional to its console output.

Hulst continues: “Savage Game Studios is joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division.

“[This] will operate independently from our console development

“[It will] focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.”

The blog ends by announcing a new triple-A mobile game which Savage is currently developing for PlayStation.

Hulst explains: “[Savage is] already working on a new unannounced triple-A mobile live service action game.

“It’s too early to reveal more, but I’m so excited for when they’ll be able to.”
