PlayStation fans speak out about ‘disappointing’ showcase – announcement considered a flop

DAYS after the PlayStation Showcase fans are now venting about their disappointment on social media.

While a number of big announcements and gameplay trailers were shown, the PlayStation Showcase was lacking in exclusive games.

Spider-Man got the most airtime during the showcase.

PlayStation is mostly known for big single-player focused action games such as God of War and Uncharted.

As such, these are the types of games fans expect to see as part of a large showcase like this.

While quite a lot of these games, like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Metal Gear Solid Delta, were shown, they will all be available on Xbox and PC, too.

A few PlayStation exclusives, including Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, were shown, but these were already known.

PlayStation’s biggest exclusive announcement was Marathon created by Bungie, though fans are expecting online elements like Destiny.

In a poll of over 10k votes run by Push Square, just 28% of fans said that the PS Showcase was ‘Good’ or better.

Conversely, 44% said it was ‘Poor’ or worse, with 28% saying it was ‘Okay’.

A big issue for publishers in the modern day, is that gamers want to know which games are in development before official announcements.

There are huge amounts of leaks online, which spoil the official reveals of big-name games.

The increase of small showcases that take place throughout the year also means there are fewer big reveals available to make at larger annual events.

Fans were mostly hoping for more information on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the next part in the Final Fantasy 7 remake.

Whether or not fans will learn to dampen their expectations will likely change the amount of hype surrounding these events.
