A PHOTO purporting to show the next PlayStation console has leaked online.

The machine shown in the image has a bonkers v-shaped design and is plastered with cooling vents.

It’s reportedly a “developer” console sent out by Sony ahead of the PlayStation 5’s Christmas 2020 release.

Games makers often get these kits well before consoles are out to test out Sony’s hardware in advance.

The image was posted to Twitter over the weekend by user The Drunk Cat alongside the caption “PS5 anyone?”

It’s not clear who the user is or how they got access to the console. The post has been “liked” by more than 12,000 people.

The PS5 is tipped to come in a strange V-shaped console design. Pictured: Sun render based on Sony patents

Designs shown in the photo match up with previously leaked patents filed by Sony.

Those also suggested the PlayStation 5 will come with an unusual v-shaped design, a marked departure from Sony’s current slanted-box PS4.

The image shows a console with what appears to be five USB ports (likely for DualShock controls), as well as a prominent disc tray.

Often these parts of the console are hidden, so they may be less obvious on the final design.

The upper section of the console appears to have large holes on all sides.

This suggests a very significant cooling system to keep the processors from overheating while rendering hi-res graphics.

Recent rumours suggest that the consolewill be more than twice as powerful as the PS4, so cooling will be key.

The bad news is that there’s no way of knowing for sure whether this is the PS5 design or not.

As with any “leaked” photo, there’s no way to verify if they’re real, so take the photo with a pinch of salt for now.

There’s also a chance this design shows the “development” version of the PS5, used by game makers to test out Sony’s hardware.

Sony recently confirmed a Christmas 2020 release date for the PS5.

We’re expecting big-budget followups to God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn to join the console’s lineup of launch titles.

The Ps5 will be a direct competitor to Microsoft’s mysterious upcoming console the Xbox 2, currently known as Project Scarlett.

In other news, Sony’s PS5 has beentipped to cost over 450.
