MULTIPLAYER maps for the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 video game may have been leaked online.

Eagle-eyed fans think they’ve uncovered leaked info about the game – revealing what to expect from the still-mysterious title.

Call of Duty 2020 is expected to land just before Christmas

Call of Duty games come out just before Christmas each year, and 2020 is no different.

Details are still very light, but fans recently spotted a listing for a game called ‘The Red Door’ on the Xbox game store.

Fans managed to install the “test” game to find it’s actually called Call of Duty Black Ops CIA – a game never announced.

And Call of Duty leaker ModernWarzone mined the game files to uncover names of apparent multiplayer maps.

The new Call of Duty game is likely being developed by Treyarch

The maps were named:

  • Black Sea
  • Cartel
  • K.G.B.
  • Miami
  • Moscow
  • Satellite
  • Tank
  • Tundra

Those maps don’t hint at much, but they may confirm previous rumours of a Cold War setting.

In any case, it wouldn’t be a surprise that Call of Duty 2020 is in testing, given that the release date is likely just a few months away.

Developers will be putting the game through its paces to ensure it launches in the best possible shape – with as few bugs as possible.

The game is expected to run on the PS4, Xbox One, PC and the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Call of Duty could be adopting a Vietnam War setting for the 2020 game

Sadly, we don’t have an exact release date beyond ‘2020’ for the new Call of Duty game.

According to Activision, this is despite the ongoing global health crisis – which has created “challenges” for developers.

“The shift to remote working does add complexity in some areas of the game development process,” Activision’s COO Daniel Alegre said.

“We are implementing mitigation measures to address each of these areas.

“This includes the next premium release of Call of Duty.”

Usually Call of Duty games come out around October or November time, so expect a similar pre-Christmas launch for 2020.

An early leak hinted that we’ll be exploring a Vietnam War setting.

But the latest word from Twitter leaker @Okami13 – and backed up by Eurogamer – is that we’ll see a Cold War setting.

In fact, the game is reportedly named Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

The Cold War was a period of major tension between the USA and Soviet Union, but wasn’t an outright war in the conventional sense.

Instead, both nations supported “proxy wars” – regional conflicts used to gain global influence.

And the fact that both nations controlled nuclear weaponry meant that neither side was willing to risk a war proper.

The period is generally said to have run from 1947 through to 1991 – when the Soviet Union was dissolved.
