SHUHEI Yoshida will be awarded the BAFTA’s highest honour, the BAFTA Fellowship, at the upcoming ceremony.

Yoshida is currently head of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s independent developer initiative.

Yoshida has worked hard to promote indies on PlayStation.

The initiative promotes and supports independently developed games released on PlayStation platforms.

In recent years, some of PlayStation’s best games have been indie titles.

For example, Stray, which was released as a PlayStation console exclusive last year, won two categories at The Game Awards and was nominated for four more.

However, Yoshida’s achievements aren’t limited to independent developers.

Yoshida has been with PlayStation since the beginning, and helped with the launch of the original console in 1993.

The press release reads, “Yoshida’s BAFTA Fellowship recognises him as a champion of independent developers.

“Through his personal social media presence and his corporate endeavours he has consistently nurtured the creativity and innovation of the indie games industry.

“[He] regularly champions indie games through podcasts, official PlayStation videos, and the wider games media.

“Yoshida has been with Sony Interactive Entertainment from the beginning, and has overseen the company’s growth.

“From a hardware and software developer to a global leader in interactive and digital entertainment.”

Shuhei Yoshida was delighted with the honour, which he will accept on March 30, 2023.

In a statement he said: “Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly talented teams who’ve developed some of the best games in the industry.

“I’ve always celebrated alongside these developers as their games have received well-deserved awards – it is an amazing honour for me to receive an accolade of my own.”
