THE next project in The Sims series, currently codenamed Project Rene, has been announced with first looks at the upcoming entry’s gameplay.

Developer EA held a Behind The Sims Summit last night, showing off upcoming developments in The Sims 4 and The Sims Mobile.

The Sims 5 will feature more customisation options,

At the end of the showcase Project Rene was announced, including some new features coming to the series and gameplay footage of furniture customisation.

EA stressed that the upcoming game, which fans are calling The Sims 5, is still in very early development and is still years from launch.

However, the developer claims it is eager for fan feedback on the game, and that it is looking for features that fans want to bring back from the series.

The first footage focused on greater customisation options than is currently available in The Sims 4.

It showed changes not only to the colour and pattern of furniture, but also the shape of some of the parts.

The Sims 4 had fewer customisation options than previous entry The Sims 3, as EA wanted to focus on expanding other parts of the game.

However, following feedback from players, it seems the developers are keen to bring back and expand on previous customisation options.

EA previously announced that The Sims 4 would be going free-to-play, a change that’s already been made.

Anyone who doesn’t own The Sims 4 base game can download it for free on all platforms, though expansion packs are still purchased separately.

Those who already owned the game will receive free in-game items as part of the change.

EA also confirmed that it is still developing expansion packs and features for The Sims 4 and The Sims Mobile, and will continue for the foreseeable future.

There are three teams currently working on the three separate Sims projects though more developers are slowly being moved to Project Rene.

Fans have responded positively to the new footage, and are looking forward to more being shown in the future.

While it will be a few years before the game’s release, it has left a positive first impression.
