VIRTUAL reality headsets have become more and more popular over the years, after the Oculus Rift kickstarted the trend in 2012.

Since then, a number of competitors have arrived on the VR scene, but the most popular has always been Oculus, now under the Meta banner with Facebook.

Oculus Quest 2’s success is begging the question of whether a third headset is in the works

Following the success of two Oculus Quest headsets, in part due to their wireless capabilities, many are wondering if and when a third will hit the market.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Oculus Quest 3.

When is Oculus Quest 3 coming out?

Since 2022, the Oculus brand has been retired within parent company Meta, also known for its ownership of Facebook.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that Meta is working on a new VR headset, but exact details were not given.

Now, its headsets are known as the Meta Quest series of headsets, and three headsets, the Quest, Quest 2, and Meta Quest Pro have been released under this banner.

The Quest 2 was announced within a month of its launch, and we expect that Meta Quest 3 will launch sometime in the holiday period in 2023.

How much will Meta Quest 3 cost?

To the surprise of many, the Meta Quest 2 saw its price rise during its life on the market, now costing £399 ($399).

Rumours have suggested that the Meta Quest 3 won’t be much more expensive than the Quest 2, but we don’t expect it will be less expensive.

Internal leaks out of Meta have suggested the company is targeting a £400 ($400) price point, but it’s possible that price could increase by release.

Recently released headsets, such as the PlayStation VR2, cost much more, at £500 or more, so the Quest 3 will still likely be the cheapest on the market.

Will Quest 3 have eye tracking?

While the Meta Quest 2 did not have eye tracking, the more recent and more expensive Meta Quest Pro did.

While we can’t extrapolate solely from the Quest Pro, it is a pretty good indicator of what the Quest 3 could be.

That’s because the cost of the technology used in the Quest Pro will have dropped considerably, making it much more viable for the cheaper Quest 3.

We expect that the Quest 3 will have eye tracking, and rumours about the upcoming headset suggest this to be the case.
