MASKED Dancer fans are sure they know who is behind Candlestick after the clues ‘began adding up’ on Saturday night.
Candlestick was first to take to the stage as the ITV1 show returned and he performed a routine to Take That’s Relight My Fire.
Raising the roof, the character impressed the celebrity panel with his moves despite claiming to have had no official dance training.
After watching him perform, viewers are now convinced they know who Candlestick is – with Olly Murs as their guess.
In a video introduction, Candlestick was seen wandering through a stately home as he said: “Here is where I hold court.”
Panellist Davina McCall wondered out loud: “Maybe he is something to do with a judge?”
Fans instantly thought of Olly, as he is a judge on The Voice UK.
Once his dance was over, host Joel Dommett ‘scanned’ Candlestick’s body with a ‘clue detector’ and it began buzzing on his knee.
The character said: “I knee-d to let you know, I went via Tinseltown on my way to success.”
In February, Olly went into hospital for surgery on his knee after suffering a horrendous accident on stage the previous summer.
As a result, he had to cancel his summer tour.
Olly also recorded a track in 2010 called I Blame Hollywood and makes reference to ‘Tinseltown’ in it.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Candlestick. Olly Murs? Has become a judge and the knee clue…had surgery on his knee??”
Another added: “Metal knee. Candlestick is @ollymurs!”
A third chimed in: “100% think candlestick is @ollymurs … knee clue related to his knee surgery and the mention of Tinseltown is reference to “I blame Hollywood” track!!”
Someone else also admitted: “My only relatively confident guess yet is Olly Murs for Candlestick…quite a few clues adding up!”
EXPERT OPINION
Fans at home weren’t the only ones to pick Olly Murs for Candlestick, either.
Celebrity panellist Jonathan Ross also guessed his name after the performance thanks to something he said in his video.
“Am I worried? No, because I know what it is to lose but win,” Candlestick had boasted.
Jonathan said: “This is someone who’s a runner up or come second but has gone on to do better, and that’s happened quite a lot on The X Factor. Like Olly Murs. He didn’t win The X Factor, so it could be Olly up there.”
The Masked Dancer returned to ITV1 on the weekend for a second series and the characters have delighted viewers.
Bosses lined-up 12 participants dressed in wacky costumes to dance on stage for the spin-off to The Masked Singer.
Episode one saw one celebrity unmasked – and it was a shock to everyone.
Astronaut landed in the bottom three along with Candlestick and double-act Pillar and Post, but the judges chose to save the other two leaving the space man as the first to exit the competition.
As the audience shouted “take it off” the character lifted their mask to reveal Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe.
