THE Masked Dancer fans are convinced that Charlie Simpson is the star behind Cactus.

Viewers spotted a number of clues, which they believe lead to the Busted musician after the costume took to the stage last week.

Fans think they have worked out who Cactus is
Charlie is now a solo artist

The hints and tips have been planted everywhere – in costumes, dance routines, in the sets, and even in the back up dancers.

And the prickly plant appeared to give away one huge clue when they said they had played “big venues”.

They also made a reference to the band Busted in their VT, and eagle eyed viewers also spotted a guitar pick.

Taking to Twitter to speculate about Cactus’ identity, one person wrote: “#MaskedDancerUK I think Cactus is Charlie Simpson from Busted! It has guitar picks & said he said “busted” at the end!.”

A second speculated: “What if cactus is actually charlie simpson lol #MaskedDancerUK.”

While a third added: “Cactus Charlie Simpson from Busted would be my guess. There were plectrums on the floor.  #MaskedDancerUK.”

Charlie, 37,  shot to fame in Busted in 2002 with the song What I Go To School For before embarking on a solo career once the band split.

Show detectives Oti Mabuse, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Peter Crouch also picked up on the boyband reference after Cactus said “my Jive will let you get down” in their VT.

Jonathan said the line was a play on a lyric from Five’s 2005 hit Everybody Get Up and said Cactus could be singer Richie Nevill.

However, the celeb panel have failed to correctly guess any of the characters so far, with Pig unveiled as Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page on Saturday night.

Pig jigged away to Katrina And The Waves’ hit song Walking On Sunshine in a battle with Sea Slug.

But it was the porker who lost out in the audience vote – ending up in the bottom three before being chosen by the judges to be unmasked.
