MASKED Singer fans are convinced that Countrywise star Liz Bonnin is hiding beneath the Mushroom costume.

Nature expert Liz, 45, appeared on the latest episode of Sunday Brunch and viewers were convinced she let slip that she could be the singing fungi.

During a quiz in the studio, Liz confirms to presenters Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy that she started her career as a backing singing in the Irish pop group The Pale.

But when asked for the name of the band’s debut album, Liz admitted that she had forgotten.

“I don’t know, but their best single was called I Am A Butterfly,” she said.

Chuckling, Tim asked: “When you say ‘their’ weren’t you in it?”

Liz replied: “Well I was in but I was a backing vocalist, I wasn’t really in the band per se. Can I get half a point for that?”

The telly star was denied the half point.

FANS TWIG

One fan wrote on Reddit: “I can’t remember many of the clues, but Liz Bonnin is on Sunday brunch…said she was a backing singer for a band.

“She also presented Autumnwatch and Springwatch, and Countryfile.

“Probably a dud but don’t recall anyone saying her, but a good shout for Mushroom.”

Others have shared identical thoughts on Twitter, with one writing: “I think Mushroom is Liz Bonnin from Springwatch. #TheMaskedSinger @MaskedSingerUK.”

Another tweeted: “Mushroom I think is Liz Bonnin. #MaskedSingerUK.”

Following her singing job with The Pale, Liz went on to join another Irish pop group called The Chilli. The group signed to record giant Polydor but they split before recording.

Liz then branched out into TV presenting, hosting the entertainment segment on Channel 4’s RI:SE and then landing a job on Top Of The Pops.

With a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a Master’s degree in wild animal biology and conservation, Liz joined BBC’s Autumnwatch and Springwatch as a guest presenter.

Since 2013, she has been a regular presenter on ITV’s Countrywise.

There are five mystery celebrities left in The Masked Singer: Mushroom, Panda, Traffic Cone, Rockhopper and RoboBunny.

On Saturday, a double elimination saw two characters leave the ITV1 show.

Former footballer Michael Owen was unveiled as Doughnuts and Jaime Winstone revealed she had been the singer behind the Firework costume.

Jaime has since told fans that she believes 80s pop star Lisa Stansfield is Mushroom.
