Before singing for the judging panel, Badger gave a mysterious clue to audiences alluding to the fact that he had collected “medals”.

Quick-thinking fans linked this with James Blunt, a former captain in the Life Guards regiment of the British Army.

The 46-year-old served for six years, including fighting in the 1999 Kosovo War and later becoming a members of the Queen’s guard.

“There’s more than one type of studio this badger is familiar with,” Badger began his pre-performance clues – linking him to recording music.

“Just look at all my awards,” the mystery star continued, holding up three military medals to the cameras.

Fans quickly flooded social media with theories, linking singer James to the comments made by Badger due to his time in the armed forces.

“Badger is James Blunt for sure,” wrote one woman. “Every clue points to him; medals and the military, motorbikes, boarding school…

“Anonymous was the intro to his album, he did Chemistry A-Level, did a ‘virtual’ concert, is a poet/songwriter, a great musician.”

One man concluded: “James Blunt is Badger! The military clues? My boyfriend pointed it out and I could suddenly hear his tone at times.”

Badger made it through to the next stage of the competition, meaning fans will have to wait to see him unmasked.

He’s not the only character who fans think they have their grips on – with many are convinced Westlife’s Nicky Byrne is Robin.

Nicky shared a video of a robin roaming in his garden on Twitter, causing fans to speculate he was giving a huge hint.

The singer, 42, captioned the video: “Look at this little fella I saw today!”
