THE MASKED Singer has finally unmasked Phoenix as Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson in the latest series of the singing competition wound to a close.
Fawn, Phoenix and Rhino had all made it to tonight’s finale without being revealed – though fans had a fair few guesses over the weeks and had sussed it was Ricky.
Phoenix came second after Rhino was announced as the winner.
Guesses had been Mark Ronson, David Tennant, The Fonz, and Mark Owen.
And when he was finally unmasked his former The Voice co-star Rita Ora gasped.
She screamed: “I can’t believe it! We did a whole series together.
“If you sang how you sing, I would have got you in a second.”
But there had been numerous clues hinting at his artistry throughout the show.
Phoenix went over his series’ clues again tonight, showing viewers two sticks of rock, a football, and a hint that his name “was a catchphrase.”
His final song of the night before being unmasked was a jazz performance of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky.
Earlier, Phoenix duetted with Fox, who was first unmasked as Denise Van Outen in 2020.
After her cameo, she told the panel: “I detect a slight nortern accent, and the reddish costumer.
“I’m thinking this could be Leigh Frances, aka Keith Lemon. Trust me on this one”
In the final episode, they performed Sway by Dean Martin, with clue packages referring to them “getting a number one, but being a collaborative effort” and playing stadiums.
The Masked Singer finally winds down a stunning series with more than a fair few surprises.
Kicking off at the beginning of the series, football pundit legend Chris Kamara was first revealed to be Ghost.
Singer Lulu was next out as Piece Of Cake, with married duo Martin and Shirlie Kemp out next after performing as Cat and Mouse.
Snooker player Stephen Hendry was hiding underneath the mask as Rubbish, and comedian Katherine Ryan shocked everyone when she was revealed to be Pigeon.
Claire from Steps fooled no one and was then revealed as Knitting, but Daisy May Cooper surprised fans when she was revealed as Otter.
In the semi-finals last week, there was two more eliminations with Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora being revealed as Jacket Potato and Glee’s Amber Riley (aka Jellyfish), who won The Masked Singer US last year, just falling short of making it to the final.
This left Fawn, Rhino and Phoenix fighting to be crowned this year’s champion, taking the crown from Natalie Imbruglia who won the 2022 series as Panda.
