THE MASKED SINGER and I’m A Celebrity joined forces in one epic crossover episode – with jungle fan favourites dressing up to take on the bonkers competition.
Rita Ora, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and Mo Gilligan all returned to the judges panel for the one-off singing special to mark the launch of the 2022 cast entering this year’s jungle camp.
Unlike previous seasons, The Masked Singer collective all had one major clue to go off – every participant of the show was a former I’m A Celebrity contestant.
But viewers clearly were not prepared for the shocks in store, with Alison Hammond kicking off proceedings by being revealed as witchetty grub.
The This Morning presenter was the first eliminated contestant, with many viewers forgetting she participated on I’m A Celeb as a late contestant in 2010.
Her video clues included nods to her stints on Celebrity Coach Trip, Big Brother and Celebrity Masterchef.
Cockroach was the next star to be revealed, with the character’s Roman-warrior inspired outfit leading the judges to believe it could have been Roman Kemp.
However, Davina McCall nailed it by correctly guessing 2020 campmate Russell Watson.
This left the two finalists – Kangaroo and Panda.
After one final showdown, Panda was declared the champion.
Kangaroo was then unveiled to be X Factor legend Sinitta, with a particular clue of a bay leaf giving her away to Rita Ora because of her infamous palm leaf outfit.
But the biggest shock came as the winner was announced as Panda – and despite their best guesses, noone got it was Vernon Kay behind the mask.
Even viewers were stumped, and after the reveal declared: “Cannot believe that Vernon Kay beat Russell Watson in a (sort of) singing competition.
“My mum guessed the Koala as [Vernon] as a joke because of the star then went no I’m going to say Jason Donovon so when Vernon revealed himself I laughed my head off,” said another. “That was such a good surprise!”
“I can’t believe we’ve been robbed of Alison Hammond on a full series of The Masked Singer :(,” said another. “Get her on the judging panel pronto!”
