WILD weather is set to hit the UK this week as the remnants of Hurricane Danielle charge towards Britain.

The Met Office predict that the weekend will start off dry on Saturday – but by Sunday Brits will see thunder, rain, mist and fog and strong winds.

More thunderstorms are on the way

The wild weather is being brought by a “highly-energetic system” which is currently drifting north.

The system is currently a hurricane and is sitting in the Atlantic Ocean – but when it hits the UK it’ll have lowered slightly in intensity.

Senior Presenter and Meteorologist Alex Deakin, explains: “There’s another area of low pressure which is gaining quite a bit of attention.

“This one is bringing quite a bit of uncertainty into the forecast. It’s Hurricane Danielle in the subtropics now, as it drifts northwards it will no longer be a hurricane.

“But when you’ve got these highly energetic systems, it does make the forecast more complicated. It brings with it more uncertainty.”

Hurricane Danielle, which is currently off the coast of Florida has not hit land, but drenched the Caribbean and Puerto Rico with rain storms.

Last night Brits were met with a huge downpour of rain, loud thunder and bright lightning.

Over a 12-hour period on Sunday, more than 36,000 lightning strikes were recorded across the UK.

Today rain, showers and thunderstorms will continue affect many parts, except the south who will remain dry from as the cold snap moves up the country.

The rest of the week will continue to be unsettled, while many parts of the country could expect hail and thunder, with brighter spells in between.

Thick cloud and heavy rain or showers will roll through many places across Britain.

Temperatures are expected to be around average but variable over this period, the Met Office said on their website.
