BRITAIN is set for a late summer heatwave with temperatures forecast to beat sunny Mexico.

Spells of rain will continue to bring the country’s driest period in half a century to an end, but Brits can still expect to dust off the BBQs to end the summer.

The mercury will shoot well above normal for this time of the year, with highs of 25C today looking set to creep up by one degree every day over the next week.

Temperatures will reach around 28C by midweek, higher than Mexico City which will hit highs of around 24C.

The uptick in temperatures is forecast to continue to rise, and sun-seekers can expect plenty of warmth to end the summer months.

Nicola Maxey, spokesperson for the Met Office, told Seconds Away Online: “Temperatures are not going to be as hot as we saw in July or earlier this month, but it looks like we’re going to have a nice, settled warm spell for the end of the summer.

“There’s certainly high indications at the moment that we’re going to see high pressure build which could bring some more settled dry, sunny weather for parts of the country.”

Brits were hit with a deluge this week after intense showers swept across parts the country, with more rain expected to fall again across most areas tomorrow.

But following some showers most can look forward to a toasty end the the summer as the weather is forecast to dry up.

The sunny spells will see most of the UK top 20C over the next week as Brits can look forward to a baking bank holiday.

Tom Morgan, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We are close to the heatwave criteria.”

He said temperatures in the high 20s for three consecutive days would become an official heatwave, but this is unlikely.

So while it may be a wet and windy weekend, things are expected to heat back up again heading into the August bank holiday.
