PIC: MARK PASSMORE/APEX 09/07/2019 Hundreds of naturists have begun arriving at a quiet part of the British countryside for the annual Nudefest Festival. The popular event is currently being hosted at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Site, near Langport, Somerset for the third year running. The festival - ran by British Naturism - is a week-long festival where people ditch their clothes and enjoy plenty of different activites. Naked Lincolnshire said its numbers shot up from 25 to 70 after UK temperatures topped 40C for the first time in July.

Group founder Chris Petchey said: “The heatwave has been great for us.

“People are much more inclined to shed their clothes when the sun is shining.

“Most of us are fairly well experienced naturists, so we do tend to carry an extra bottle of sun cream, which we’re quite happy to share with those new to naturism.”

The Met Office says this summer was England’s joint hottest since records began in 1884.

Mr Petchey said his group is now lining up indoor events for the chilly autumn to try to retain membership.

He added: “The naturist community is very accepting.

“People with scars and poor self-esteem often say it helps them.

“Just being outdoors, with the sun on you, generates Vitamin D.”
