TEMPERATURES are set to swell to 30C today as the Met Office reveals a scorching heat sweeping the South East.

Hot weather and humidity is expected across some parts of the UK, according to the latest weather map.

The mercury is set to climb to 30C in London and Broxbourne while Luton and Woking will see a high of 29C.

“It’s going to feel muggy and humid with highs of 30C, and fairly breezy with that south westerly wind as well,” BBC presenter Lucy Martin told viewers.

Met Office forecasters predict some rain is heading southward across central parts of the UK – with some heavy periods likely at first.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said humid air is coming into an area with low pressure while a couple of weather fronts cross mainly northern and central parts of the country.

Early on Tuesday, rain may be heavy for southern Scotland, northern England, the north Midlands and north west Wales.

The odd rumble of thunder can be expected as well.

Only scattered light showers are expected in Scotland and Northern Ireland where skies will brighten.

Mr McGivern said: “Now the heaviest of the rain pushes away by lunchtime, skies brighten for Scotland and Northern Ireland, a few sunny spells coming through here, a few showers as well in the north west where it will be breezy.”

As the day goes on, parts of England and Wales can expect patchy rain, drizzle and hill fog.

The further north is expected to see cloudy conditions with showers developing but the far south can expect dry conditions to continue.

Tomorrow much of England and Wales is to experience very warm sunshine, forecasters say.

Patchy light rain and drizzle is predicted in parts of south England which will clear.

Brits are expected to enjoy sunny skies and cool breezes for the rest of the week – but the nights may not be as pleasant.

Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “There’s going to be a very muggy feel, more so at night, so expect an uncomfortable time sleeping, with temperatures in the late teens.”

Holidaymakers had flocked to beaches across the country to enjoy the lovely weather for the kids’ summer holidays.

Yesterday, Brits were warned they could face fines of up to £1,000 for using hosepipes as water firms impose bans.

The changes are expected to affect at least 17 million people.

Southern Water was the first to announce the measure – citing that river levels were dangerously low following a spike in demand during the record heatwave.
