LOVE Island star Liam Llewelyn’s dad has broken his silence after his son was ditched by Gemma Owen.
David Llewelyn – who is in fact a former Wales International Rugby Union player – joked about what he would say to Gemma’s own sporting dad, Michael Owen after she was accused of being “rude” to him.
Speaking on Heart South Wales, Woody & Jagger show, he said: “He’s a footballer, I’m a rugby player, I hope he doesn’t fall over when I shake his hand.”
David, who now trains atheles like boxing champ Joe Cordina, went on to praise his son after a tough start to the show.
He said: “It’s just a privilege to see him on there. He’s such a charming young man.
“He’s just a gem. He’s such a kind-hearted soul. He’d light up any room in the world.

“Whether he wins or not he’s a true gentleman and he’s coming across lovely, he’s a top young man.”
Viewers have been left feeling very sorry for Liam after Gemma, 19, made it very clear she wasn’t interest him.
She has been accused of being rude to him after viewers coupled them up.
She was unimpressed when he asked her if she knew what strength and conditioning – the subject of his Master’s degree – meant.
The dressage rider snapped on the first night of Love Island: “Don’t be a d***. No I’m not playing that stupid game.”
And last night things took a turn for the worse when bombshell Davide chose to couple up with Gemma after also getting to know dancer and model Tasha and paramedic Paige.
While stood at the firepit before making his choice, 27-year-old business owner Davide, who is originally from Rome but lives in Manchester, said: “Naturally, it has not been easy to choose because in only 24 hours it is difficult to try to know everyone and try to make the right decision.
“So I decided to couple up with this girl because there’s not just attraction, I mean, yes she is a stunning girl, but I felt we really have a good time and I would like to know her more.”
Speaking to Davide earlier in the episode, Gemma revealed he was very much her type, after she had also expressed reservations about her initial partner Liam.
Shortly after Davide had revealed his choice, Liam received a text warning the islanders to expect a recoupling at the end of the week, during which the boy who fails to be picked will be the first to be dumped from the island – leave Liam in a very vulnerable position.
