LOVE Islands future was in the balance last night after six hours of talks.

Bosses cancelled Sundays episode out of respect to Carolines family but said the show would continue on Monday night with a tribute.

ITV bosses are discussing the future of Love Island following Caroline Flack’s death

It is ITV2s biggest ratings hit but has previously been linked to three deaths.

Love Island is commercially huge but those with vested interests are concerned about its effect.

There was talk of resting it for a series and even taking it out of production for the foreseeable future.

Sophie Gradon, who took part in 2016, was found dead aged 32 in June 2018.

Her boyfriend Aaron Armstrong, who discovered her body, committed suicide 20 days later.

Last March Mike Thalassitis, who appeared in the 2018 series, took his life at 26.

Social media users said the show had grown toxic and focused too much on looks.

They are now facing mounting pressure to axe the show entirely.

More aftercare was brought in last year including therapy plus training on social media and money management.

A source added: Love Island has been tarnished by what has happened and even though the aftercare system for contestants was overhauled this year, it feels there is still a long way to go.

An ITV spokeswoman said: After careful consultation between Carolines representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Carolines tragic death we have decided not to broadcast tonights Love Island out of respect for Carolines family.

Love Island will return tomorrow night which will include a tribute to Caroline who will be forever in our hearts.

Channel 4 has cancelled The Surjury, due to be hosted by Caroline this year and featuring people pitching for free cosmetic surgery.
