First UK Supermarket to Offer Online Prescription Service
ASDA has unveiled a groundbreaking move with the introduction of a new lifeline service at its 232 locations, becoming the inaugural UK supermarket to provide an online prescription service.
Partnership with Pharmacy2U
In a strategic collaboration, the supermarket chain has joined forces with Pharmacy2U, the largest NHS-approved online pharmacy, to offer this innovative service. New patients can now easily create an account on pharmacy.asda.com to manage their prescriptions.
Convenient Prescription Services
Customers can swiftly access medicines for home delivery and track their orders seamlessly once enrolled in the service. Prescriptions, verified by licensed chemists, will be delivered to the patient's doorstep at no extra charge. Additionally, patients have the option to collect from any of the 232 Asda branches at a later date.
Addressing Pharmacy Closure Crisis
As the UK witnesses a decline in local pharmacies, with over 300 closures in 2023 alone, Asda's initiative aims to bridge the gap. Faisal Tuddy, Head of Pharmacy at Asda, emphasized the importance of providing easy access to repeat prescriptions, especially for those without a nearby Asda Pharmacy.
Challenges in the Pharmacy Sector
The closure of pharmacies across England has presented challenges for patients in obtaining essential medication. Experts attribute these closures to stagnant funding levels since 2016, resulting in a reduction of over £200 million. Malcolm Harrison, CEO of the CCA, expressed concerns about the increasing struggles faced by pharmacy businesses.
