Millions Set to Receive Tax-Free Payment
Millions of households on Universal Credit and other benefits will be receiving a Christmas bonus directly into their bank accounts. The tax-free £10 payment will be made during the first full week of December.
Criteria to Qualify for the Payment
To qualify for the tax-free cash, households must meet two criteria. Firstly, they must be present or ordinarily resident in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Gibraltar during the first full week of December. Secondly, they must claim at least one of the 20 qualifying benefits within the same period.
Look Out for the Code in Your Bank Statement
If you are eligible for the £10 boost, keep an eye out for the code "DWP XB" in your bank statement. This code indicates that the payment is the Christmas bonus being made by the Department for Work and Pensions.
Other Christmas Cash Opportunities
In addition to the Christmas bonus, there are other opportunities to receive extra cash this holiday season. Those on Universal Credit could be eligible for the Warm Home Discount, a £150 discount off energy bills. There is also the Winter Fuel payment, which could provide up to £600 for those born on or before September 25, 1957. Furthermore, thousands on a low income may be missing out on Pension Credit, which could be worth £3,500 a year.
Claiming Your Christmas Cash
If you believe you qualify for the Christmas bonus but did not receive it automatically, contact your local Jobcentre Plus or Pension Centre. For more information on claiming Pension Credit or other benefits, visit the Government's website.
