Plans for expansion

Furniture retailer Made is set to make a return to the physical retail space after being rescued by Next. The company plans to launch a new concession in Next's store at Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre in December. Made's head of brand, Hollie Parkinson, revealed that the retailer also has plans to expand its online presence and keep its brand separate from Next. It is also looking into brand partnerships and a return to Europe next year.

Details yet to be confirmed

Exact details about the opening date of the Made concession at Next are yet to be confirmed. Sun Money has contacted Next to find out more information about the furniture that will be available for shoppers at the concession.

Rescue by Next

Made.com's operating subsidiary, MDL, appointed administrators from PwC in November 2022. Next then acquired the brand, domain names, and intellectual property for £3.4 million. Made.com experienced financial difficulties due to rising costs and slowing customer demand, exacerbated by supply chain disruptions and the economic downturn. Prior to the deal with Next, the company had received interest from various parties to purchase parts of the business.

Next's previous rescues

This is not the first time that Next has taken over a struggling business. In 2021, Next started selling Gap clothing online and in 2022 began selling Gap clothing in stores after taking over the high street brand. Next also acquired troubled lingerie brand Victoria's Secret, saving its UK shops and website. Additionally, Next took a stake in baby and maternity clothing retailer JoJo Maman Bebe.
