The Household Support Fund

Brits can now apply for vouchers for food or energy worth up to £220, thanks to the latest phase of the Household Support Fund. This initiative aims to provide assistance to struggling individuals and families during the holiday season.

Availability and Amount

The fund is available across the UK, but the amount you can receive depends on your local council. For example, residents in Cambridgeshire may be eligible for a £110 voucher if they have less than £16,000 in savings and earn below a certain threshold. By leaving a three-month gap between applications, you can receive the grant twice in one year, totaling £220.

Support during the Cost of Living Crisis

The Household Support Fund, which was launched in October 2021, has a total budget of £842 million. The aim is to alleviate financial pressure during the winter months. Councils throughout the country received a portion of the £500 million funding available to distribute to those in need.

Types of Assistance

Depending on your local council and personal circumstances, you may be eligible for free cash and vouchers to cover expenses such as heating or groceries. It's important to note that receiving benefits will not affect your eligibility for the Household Support Fund.

How to Apply

To access the funding, you'll need to contact your local council. Each council has its own application process, so it's best to visit their website or use the gov.uk council finder tool to find the relevant information. Some councils may even reach out to eligible individuals directly without requiring an application.

If you can't find the necessary information on your council's website, it's recommended to call and inquire about the support available and the eligibility criteria.
