Wetherspoons shutting down popular pub
Wetherspoons is set to close the "fabulous" Percy Shaw pub in Halifax, Yorkshire, following a series of closures. The pub will welcome customers for the final time on January 7 next year. This comes after the pub was put up for sale, along with several others, in September 2022.
Job offers for staff
Wetherspoons has assured that the staff at the Percy Shaw pub have been offered jobs at other Wetherspoons pubs in the area.
Recent closures
Several Wetherspoons pubs have closed their doors in recent months, including The Butler's Bell in Stafford, The Millers Well in East Ham, and The General Sir Redvers Buller in Crediton. The Jolly Sailor in Hanham and The Coronet in London have also shut down.
More pubs up for sale
Wetherspoons announced in September that 32 pubs were being put up for sale, and later added 11 more to the list. A full list of pubs currently up for sale is available.
Pub closures across the UK
These closures come as many UK pubs face challenges due to the turbulent economic climate. High inflation, increased wage and energy costs, and less expendable cash for households are contributing factors. The high street has also been hit hard, with several retailers, including Cath Kidston, Paperchase, M&Co, and Wilko, going into administration.
