Kemi Badenoch has dismissed the race row over a £10 million Tory donor as 'trivial'. Despite calling Frank Hester's comments about Diane Abbott racist last week, the Business Secretary played down the row last night.

Background: What sparked the uproar?

Frank Hester's 2019 comment calling for Diane Abbott to be shot resurfaced, causing outrage. Ms. Abbott described the reported comments as 'frightening' and 'alarming'.

Badenoch's response

Badenoch defended the PM's decision to keep the donation after Hester apologized for his past remarks. She emphasized that accepting apologies and moving on is important, stating, "If you've accepted someone's apology, you've accepted their apology."

Sunak's stance

Rishi Sunak also weighed in, stating that when someone genuinely apologizes and shows remorse, it should be accepted. He indicated that the party would continue accepting donations from Hester unless new information emerged to change the situation.
