Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman raises concerns over the Rwanda Bill

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has warned that dozens of Conservative Party MPs could potentially resign if changes to the Rwanda Bill are not accepted. Braverman stated that she would vote against the legislation if the Prime Minister does not agree to the proposed amendments during a Commons showdown.

Tory rebels seek tougher measures in the Rwanda Bill

A group of fifty backbenchers, including former Prime Minister Liz Truss, have shown support for amendments put forward by Robert Jenrick, who resigned as immigration minister last month over the legislation. The rebels argue that the current Bill still leaves room for individual appeals to derail the policy and are calling for ministers to disregard judgments from the Strasbourg court.

Braverman calls the current Bill a betrayal to the British public

During an interview with GB News, Suella Braverman expressed her concerns about the Rwanda Bill, stating that it is currently not working and is a disservice to the British public. She described it as a betrayal, and if no improvements are made, she will have to vote against it.

Several ministers share Braverman's reservations

When asked about other ministers' opinions on the Bill and whether they have considered resigning, Braverman disclosed that many of them have grave reservations about the legislation. She mentioned that she has spoken to dozens of ministers who privately admit that they do not believe the Bill will be effective.
