THE husband of a Conservative minister claimed coronavirus was a “mental illness” and has retweeted posts describing the Government as “globalist puppets” and “tyrants”.
Sandy McFadzean, husband of Norwich North MP Chloe Smith, attended Saturday’s march in London against vaccinations, social distancing and face masks.
A poster for the march in Trafalgar Square, retweeted by Mr McFadzean on Twitter, also called for no more lockdowns, no track and trace and no “new normal”.
Demonstrators at the ‘Unite for Freedom’ rally carried banners saying “Masks are muzzles” and “Covid-19 is a scam”. Jeremy Corbyn’s brother Piers and the conspiracy theorist David Icke were among thousands of people who attended.
Ms Smith, who was famously skewered by Jeremy Paxman in a toe-curling Newsnight interview in 2012, has supported the Government’s policies against coronavirus.
The minister of state for the Cabinet Office changed her Twitter name during the pandemic to reflect the Government message of “Stay Alert, Save Lives.”
However her husband denies the existence of coronavirus, writing on Twitter: “Government need to be clear. Either there is a killer virus on the loose or there isn’t. (Spoiler alert: There isn’t).”
In July he wrote: “Covid-19 is most likely an outbreak of mental illness.”
Mr McFadzean also retweeted a post comparing the arrest of Mr Corbyn, 73, to the crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
His account was deleted yesterday afternoon after Ms Smith was contacted for comment by his local newspaper.
Norwich South Labour MP Clive Lewis told the Eastern Daily Press: “There’s absolutely no way I’d hold anyone responsible for the views of their partner.
“However, if my partner was spouting forth a load of Covid conspiracy, anti-vaccination nonsense, it is very likely the subject might come up for discussion at some point over tea.”
Ms Smith has been contacted for a response.
