A ROYAL historian was reduced to tears after Princess Anne’s starring role at King Charles’ coronation was revealed.

During the procession on May 6, the Princess Royal will be the Gold-Stick-in-Waiting – a role historically handed to a person entrusted with the safety of the monarch.

This will see her travel on horseback behind the newly crowned King and Queen Consort after the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, before leading a larger procession featuring 6,000 armed services personnel.

Royal observer and historian Marlene Koenig, took to Twitter to react to the prestigious position, writing: ”Oh this is so lovely. A few tears right now because the late queen would be so chuffed. I think Anne may have been the 1st to curtsey to Charles after MD pronounced the Queen was dead.”

According to sources, King Charles gave Princess Anne the huge honour as a thank-you for her “unwavering devotion”.
