But she struggles even further next week in Coronation Street after spotting her attacker with someone new.
Day-to-day life in the cobbles has become more difficult for Amy Barlow
She’s struggling to overcome her rape trauma
And it only gets worse next week
ITV viewers have seen Amy Barlow (played by Elle Mulvaney) struggle with her daily life, from taking bus trips to keeping up with her coursework, as her rape trauma remains present.
In scenes airing next week, her friend Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) decides to take her mind off things and persuades Amy and Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) to come to Billy Mayhew’s Eurovision party.
However, Amy stuns when she makes it clear she’s also moving on with her life as best as she can – she’s got a lunch date with a boy on her course named Ezra.
Summer excitedly helps Amy get ready and applies her makeup but it’s soon clear the teen is already regretting her date with Ezra.
In later scenes, Amy feels sick to spot Aaron Sandford (James Craven) kissing a girl in Victoria Garden and she confides in Aadi it’s hard for her to see her rapist get on with his life while she struggles to hold herself together.
Amy then describes the girl she saw kissing Aaron and Summer realises it can only be Mia, an ex whom she, ironically, was worried about during their relationship.
Regular viewers of the Manchester-based soap will remember that Summer once caught Aaron chatting to Mia behind her back and sharing extremely private details about her life with her.
This led to them breaking up… and to Aaron finding comfort in the form of Amy before raping her while she was drunk and unconscious.
Mia gets a strange message from Amy and shows it to Aaron.
It’s quickly revealed Amy is warning Mia about Aaron, telling her he’s bad news – but how will he react?
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
